Orcas of the Inside Passage
Orcas of the Inside Passage
Rising to breathe at the very edge of their world, whales usually offer us only fleeting glimpses into their mysterious lives before disappearing out of reach into the dark ocean depths once more. Here we have the chance, via recordings made from OrcaLab hydrophones, to listen to the orcas as they move through their vast underwater world. We follow without intruding. The orcas’ calls, marvelous in variety and timbre, reveal the drama of their daily lives - as they communicate and interact with each other, hunt for food, navigate watery passages, or simple express the joy of the moment!

1. A6 (Strider) hurrying through Blackney Pass to catch up with his family.
2. The A30s, Tsitika’s family, Strider was Tsitika’s oldest son.
3. The Ws of R clan, travelling along the Vancouver Island shoreline.
4. Several families from “A” & “R” clans, on a lovely summer evening in 1991.
5. Orcas at the rubbing beaches.
6. The I15 family of “G” clan.
7. The “pings” (resting calls) of the I11 & I31 families.
8. The Hs in Johnstone Strait in 1993.
9. The A5s fishing.
10. The Norhting LIghts recording, August 15th 1982 - families from all 3 clans together under a full moon and dancing sky.

The work of OrcaLab is understanding, education, and protection. Visit us at www.orcalab.org and experience the orcas and their world LIVE at www.orca-live.net.
